For a small club based on a tiny lake Tonbridge Town Sailing Club punches well above its weight when it comes to Youth sailing. In 2025 our Youth sailors have made their mark at National and International level. One aged 13 posted two seconds in National Series events in the Topper 4.2 class and was 8th at the Worlds. He also sailed in the National Championships for the youth 420 class, having at the age of only twelve already completed the 40-mile Round Sheppey race, the longest dinghy race in Europe.

 

But he is by no means the only TTSC sailor making his mark on the Topper Class. At the main selector event for the Topper 5.3 Regional Squad at Island Barn Reservoir SC in September we had sailors finishing in 2nd and 4th and another looking poised to compete at National level in the 4.2 class next year.

A total of nine young TTSC sailors have won their team hoodies by competing for the club on the Open Meeting circuit in the last three years. The most recent to join made her debut at Island Barn in September. And a special shout out to one of our youngest sailors, who at the age of only nine now already has a year’s experience on the circuit under his belt.

 

As well as Topper class events our team are also to be seen at regattas and training events run by the Kent Schools Sailing Association and two sailors have been part of the Kent team at National Schools Sailing Association events.
